Chaouen is a little village of about 40.000 inhabitants, in the outskirts of the Rif-Mountainsin the north of Morocco. At 660m. altitude and with very little traffic of cars, the clean and fresh air invites you to spend some time to discover the beauty of the place and its surroundings.

The Medina of Chefchaouen, also known as Chaouen or Xauen, is pretty calm and little and its picturesque alleys will all lead you to the central square Uta el-Hammam,with the big Mosque and the Kashba. From here an alley can be taken that leades northeast to Bab el-Ansar and the source Ras el-Maa. This precious walk takes us to the Rif Sebbanin, the laundry district, with the Seat of Sebbanin and its mosque of century XV.

To discover the sourroundings of Chaouen we recommend the following excursions:

- The National Park Talassemtane - you will find a lot of virgin nature with native species like the Pinsapo.
- Akchour and the Bridge of God - an impressive rock arc, 25 m above the river Oued Farda, that eroded the rock until forming this work of natural art.
- Oued Laou and the beaches of Targha- a pleasant excursion for saturday to Oued Laou with its famouse zoco and the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea.
- Or simply walking up from Chaouen into the mountains to enjoy the precious nature.
